The truths and events that are associated with the 1888 message did not happen within a vacuum. A study of the historical setting affords us the opportunity to see God's way of giving present truth to a real world with real needs. The Industrial Revolution, new interest in spectator sports, theater, circuses, a boom in immigration, street violence, and the beginning of organized crime culminated in the Panic of 1893, a depression second only to the 1929 crash.
