Description
This translation restores the oldest Hebrew text of the Old Testament available today. This work is distilled from two texts of the Old Testament or TANAKH: one created from the most authoritative Hebrew text, and the other from the most authoritative Greek text. This work uses the Masoretic Hebrew text as it base text, but it is uniquely positioned to consider readings from the parallel Greek text, as well as Dead Sea Scroll readings, and the Samaritan Pentateuch (for the first five books of Moses). Where a Dead Sea Scroll or Samaritan Pentateuch text agree with the Greek Septuagint, that reading is generally adopted as being older than the Hebrew text that currently exists. While other Bible translations occasionally modify the Hebrew text based on readings from these older translations of an older Hebrew text, none are positioned to do so to the extent this translation does. Readings from these older texts not adopted are presented in footnotes. This work enhances the reader’s understanding of Jewish and Greek culture, history, and language.
