Both had Christian parents who were excellent examples of sacrificial living--Julius and Ida Jane Tucker and Thomas Jefferson and Ethel Hooper.
When LaVerne was eight years old he was asked by a visiting missionary, "Sonny, what are you going to be when you grow up? LaVerne responded, "probably a cowboy." The question was carefully considered and the right answer was discovered by LaVerne later that day. Don't put this book down until you find that answer.
LaVerne says it was "love at first sight" for him when he spotted Alma just before dinner in 1941. Their courtship story will warm your heart. You will thrill with the way God has led in the soulsaving ministry of these two lives as they have traveled throughout the world calling thousands to Christ.
A pastor-evangelist from 1944, for 31 years (from 1954 to 1985) LaVerne Tucker served as Vice President of The Quiet Hour, a radio, television, literature, and worldwide mission outreach. Beginning in 1971, LaVerne served as Director of The Quiet Hour and associate speaker. From 1985 to 1993 (when he retired) he was President and Speaker of The Quiet Hour. He founded the Search telecast in 1969, and served as Evangelist to the world for the last 20 years of his ministry.
Alma has been a constant companion, working side by side with LaVerne in ministry, whether pastoral, evangelism, Bible studies, radio, television, or overseas mission work. Her solo voice also blended as first tenor in The Quiet Hour male quartet and in duets and trios for 40 years.
She served as Director of The Quiet Hour Bible School from 1972 until 1997 when she retired.
They have two sons, six grandchildren, and a great grandson. They still snow ski in winter and boogie board at the beach some each summer.
