We often take for granted our religious freedom and fail to be thankful for those men and women who in ages past were willing to be burned at the stake of the truths they held.
This is the story of John Knox, one educated for the priesthood but whose studies, and the teachings of George Wishart, brought about such a change in his life that he firmly determined to bring about such a change in his life that he firmly determined to bring about reformation in Scotland. "Give me Scotland or I die," he pleaded with God.
"Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him." This was Knox's stand.
Through his lifetime Knox boldly preached the Word. He may not have had a clear understanding of the principle of the separation of church and state, but on the whole his endeavors and his staunch attitude served the interests of Scotland to the best advantage at that time.
John Knox has gone down in history not only as a great Scottish reformer, but also as a statesman and patriot of his country.
