This book is a travelogue with a purpose. First it takes you to the remote Pacific island of Mussau, formerly a "devil's paradise," where boatloads of muscular young men with dark skin and flashing white teeth streak toward you in war canoes. These healthy fellows belong to "the generation that was not supposed to be," and their story is a dramatic one.

Next you tour a great center of the healing arts in California, and are included in a trip to Athens, Greece, with a team of heart surgeons on a lifesaving mission. Then you glimpse the workings of an international organization devoted to the preservation of religious liberty. The scene changes, and you are a spectator in the crowded city streets of America, where college students work for underprivileged children. You visit Zurich, Switzerland, and witness a world congress of Christian young people. Here you see fun and pageantry combined with a serious purpose. You view a cross section of the world's future--its children. You meet Smoking Sam, the cigarette-using manikin who helps thousands of children decide to stop smoking or, better, never to start.

When floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes strike, you watch people leap into action, prepared with stockpiles of food and clothes for just such emergencies. You visit schools and colleges, unique food-manufacturing centers, and publishing plants from whose presses a colorful product streams. With the aid of 250 human-interest photographs, this book introduces you to some of the world's most active Christians--your Seventh-day Adventist friends and neighbors. It tells you who they are, how they worship, what they believe, what and why they build. For they are building almost everywhere--on all six continents and in most countries of the world. They build with brick and boards, nails and mortar, thatch and steel. And more important, they build health, hope, learning, and faith in human lives.
