DANGEROUS OPPORTUNITY is an unparalleled tale of mission service under the most difficult circumstances imaginable, far beyond the call of duty. This is anything but an ordinary, run-of-the-mill mission story. In fact, it is unique.

Prior to World War II more Seventh-day Adventist missionaries were serving in China than those of any other Protestant mission organization. With the outbreak of hostilities between Japan and China in 1937, and of World War II in 1941, normal channels of communication, travel, and supply ceased to function, and it became most difficult to maintain an adequate staff and services at the many hospitals, secondary schools, and mission stations. The need for medical supplies to keep the twelve hospitals operating was particularly critical.

The only way to meet this crisis was to operate our own system of transport and supply -- a task the China Division assigned to Elder Longway. In this book he tells of his experiences during the critical eight years from 1937 to 1945. With several fleets of trucks operating over a primitive highway system with no automotive services of any kind en route and repeatedly traversing active war zones and no man's land, his dedication, ingenuity, daring, and courage kept the mission life-line open. With God's blessing, none of his passengers and no member of his team suffered injury, nor did he lose even one load of supplies. That was a miracle second to none.
