Not often do I come to the end of a book and say to myself, "This is something every Adventist should read!" But when I finished reading Lewis Walton's book Decision at the Jordan I did just that. The book is both simple and profound. It unmasks Satan's strategy against the church, provides clear answers to questions about denominational beliefs, and sounds a note of courage for the church as it enters the final phase of the controversy between Christ and Satan.

Drawing on his knowledge and skills as an attorney, the author is particularly persuasive as he explains why the investigative judgment is necessary. "The plan of salvation," he writes, "operates on principles readily recognizable in human law."

Other subjects touched on in the book include the Sabbath, the sanctuary, the ten-commandment law, perfectionism, the day of atonement, the last deception of Satan, and the shaking of Adventism--all subjects of deep interest to every church member.

But this book does much more than confirm faith and strike a note of optimism and courage; it also stabs the conscience. After picturing the test of faith that came to ancient Israel as the people had to decide whether to follow the ark into the Jordan River, the author asks: "Will we believe God's revealed truth? And will we obey it? We have reached the Jordan. And it is time for a decision."

This book should not only be read, it should be reread, then shared and discussed with other church members. Our response to the challenge of this book may well help determine whether the present generation of God's people will cross "Jordan" and go into the Promised Land.
