Jesus has often been the topic of conversation in our home. We talked about Him so much, in fact, that I seemed almost to suffer a case of overexposure to Him. Over and over again I heard about His sacrifice for me, and all that. He died for me, even though I was a sinner. That was a nice fact to know, but it was just that--a fact. I just couldn't feel beyond that. And I got tired of dealing with facts; they made God seem so agonizingly remote. I longed to know Him as a person.

As I studied each encounter Jesus had with people and as I tried to relive each situation I felt impressed with the exquisite sensitivity He had in His contacts with people--all people. His methods were versatile, individualistic. He asked the woman at the well to do Him a favor; He touched the leper to make him clean; He prayed verbal games with the Canaanite woman; and He invited Himself over for dinner at Zacchaeus' house--different ways for different people--but love always underscored every method.
