Since the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement was organized, its pioneers and members have understood that it is their duty to respond to the call of God directed to His servants through the Spirit of Prophecy in 1913:
"Men of clear understanding are needed now. God calls upon those who are willing to be controlled by the Holy Spirit to lead out in a work of thorough reformation." --Testimonies to Ministers, p. 514.
SDA Reformers are a group of believers in the three angels' message who originally lost their membership in the Seventh-day Adventist church in Europe during World War I (1914-1918), not only because as conscientious objectors they refused to go to the battlefront, but also because they raised their voices in protest against the new position adopted by the church. It was clear to them that the combatant status which was officially accepted with the approval of officers of the General Conference was a deviation from the original stand of denomination. And they were prepared to face the consequences - cruel persecution from their former brethren and from the powers that be. This book describes the "almost indescribable" trials that the conscientious objectors, a faithful minority of historic Adventists, suffered during the two world wars (1914-1918 and 1939-1945), as well as many of their experiences in times of peace. This first edition was prepared with information we had on hand; some of the countries and places which were reached by the message of reformation in recent years are not even mentioned here. It is hoped, however, that the second edition will be greatly enlarged with additional information.
