Many of those who perished had been Seventh-day Adventists only two or three years before. Ten people had come from one congregation in Hawaii. Five from a family in England. Even their leader, David Koresh, had been a church member and attended an Adventist church school.

Was there something in their Adventist background that made them vulnerable to David Koresh's teachings? Did the Adventist Church fail in its early relationship with Koresh? How do we keep a sense of the end-time from turning into fear and paranoia? Cari Hoyt Haus and Madlyn Lewis Hamblin had friends and acquaintances who perished in the conflagration. With the assistance of North American Division church leaders, the authors conducted extensive research and interviewed family members of those at Waco to find out why the disaster happened and what we can learn from it so as to prevent it from occurring again.
