In a ministry which now extends over a period of nearly half a century, in evangelistic and pastoral work, in preaching and teaching in many countries and cities on three continents, it has been my experience that the largest number of inquiries from, and the deepest interest of, those who are seeking to understand the deep things of Bible truth have refence to what God has revealed regarding the origin nature, and destiny of man; the nature and possibilities of life, both here and hereafter; the state of the dead; the resurrection; the reward of the righteous; the fate of the wicked; the character and duration of the future life promised to those who are saved, and the character and the duration of the punishment to be visited upon those who are lost.

How life began, what its purpose is, how it is to be lived to meet the will of the Creator, what its potentialities are, how it is to end, if at all, and whether any man or all men may gain an endless life, a life beyond the grave-these are the things above all others which serious-minded and thinking men eagerly desire to know, and know with absolute certainty.

At different times and to meet different occasions through my long ministry, I have written on these subjects. Indeed, the first of the forty books I have produced over a period of thirty-six years, The Other Side of Death, was concerned with these things. Similar books have followed as the need has arisen.

On the solicitation of many friends it has seemed right and good to me to bring together in one volume, and in a systematic and connected way, not only what has been scattered through many earlier brochures and pamphlets, but also to add much new material bearing on the same subjects and thus endeavor to set forth the whole teaching of the Scripture on these highly important matters, as well as to examine the chief objections which are customarily advanced against them.
