No Turning Back is the appealing and poignant story of the daughter of Finnish immigrants who grew up in a small iron mining town in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula, became the wife of a Lutheran minister, and after ten years of faithful support of her husband's ministry began to keep the seventh-day Sabbath, Saturday, and joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Her decision made her the "talk to the town." The crumbling of her husband's ministry, the almost unbearable tension in her home, the animosity and virtual ostracism she experienced, could not sway her from the course she had adopted. No matter the pain it would cause her to suffer, including the potential disruption of her marriage and family, she was determined to follow what she believed to be God's truth.
What did pietistic Lutheran parents, Finish sisu, the struggle for survival in a large family during the great depression, and the challenge of living the Christian faith during high school, contribute to the formation of the kind of character that made possible Shirley's courageous stand in the face of such great odds?
Here is the story of the author's dramatic decision and its vindication in her life and that of her husband in the years since she became a Seventh-day Adventist in 1969
