Sarah Barnes is an eight-year-old who lives in a New Hampshire farm with her Ma and Pa, and little sisters Katie and baby Emily in 1842.
Sarah is excited about her grandparents coming for a visit. She can't wait to see Grammy and especially Grandfather! She knows he'll tell her wonderful stories of his life as a sea captain.
But Grandfather surprises the whole family with some startling ideas he heard William Miller preach from the Bible. Jesus will return very soon, and the world will come to an end! Pa is skeptical, and Grammy doesn't believe it.
After a trip to the East Kingston camp meeting, the family returns home to tragedy. But Sarah finds comfort in knowing Jesus will come back soon to reunite her loved ones. Her faith---and a surprise gift from the heart--helps to ease her sadness.
