Plucky the Chicken / Jagnandan, Pushpa / Paperback / LSI

945-7005 L

About the Book

Plucky, the little white hen has a mishap when the crate in which she is riding falls off the back of Mr. Chubbs’ truck. As Plucky is healing, Dr. HubLub, the veterinarian, teaches her about healthy living. Just as with children, Plucky is not always thrilled with the changes she must make to be a healthier hen. Gently persuaded by Dr. HubLub, she learns to enjoy good food, pure water, fresh air, and exercise. This book is a fun way to expose children to the eight laws of health.

Available in PAPERBACK and eBOOK formats.

About the Author

Pushpa Jagnandan

Originally from Guyana, Pushpa Jagnandan currently lives in Parkchester, The Bronx, New York. While living in Guyana, she (studied?) linguistics at the University of Guyana before marrying and having children. She attends the Morris Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in The Bronx. A sentence from the book The Ministry of Healing by E. G. White has inspired her to write this book to encourage children to learn healthy habits at a young age. Here is the quote: “Our Lord Jesus Christ came to this world as the unwearied servant of Man’s necessity … that he might minister to every need of humanity.” Pushpa admits that she loves to snack on Granny Smith apples, sprinkled with salt and pepper, and spending time with her family.

  1. Symbolically mirrors our own lives and our questionable health decisions 5 Star Review

TEACH Services received the following review:
“This three-chapter book is filled with surprising rhymes throughout the entire story. I don’t know how Pushpa Jagnandan was able to maintain that rhyming humor and tell a “healthy story.” The Journey of Plucky the chicken’s life, symbolically mirrors our own lives and our questionable health decisions. At the ending we see how Jagnandan clearly outlines how we can overcome our unhealthy habits to have a ‘second life.’” Every little boy and girl would love to have this book. They will want to read it again and again."

  2. Wonderful book for children 5 Star Review

"I have spent a huge amount of time with my sister, the author of Plucky the chicken, and I can see the amount of love and devotion my sister has put into creating this wonderful book for children. She has definitely taken on the role of health adviser to children and parents. From the start to the ending of this book we hear the appeal for a change in the way we feed our children. In an admirable way Pushpa Jagnandan has done an incredible job in creating male characters that are Christ-like. This is a powerful way to redesign the way in which we nurture the boychild. She has definitely created a positive image for young boys to model after. This book is the perfect gift for any little boy and girl."

"Charming, creative and compelling!!! My wife, the author of Plucky the chicken, has moved out from our kitchen and enter into the world, to join in the labor of correcting unhealthy childhood habits. This book is not just a story, it is a gift for good health in children. Parents and children will love it! Her unique voice is what we need to help us fight the fight we have been waging after for so many years."
