About the Book

Scott Burgess has crafted a most intriguing commentary on Revelation's Old Testament counterpart. Readers will treasure The Stand: Jesus in the Book of Daniel for its educational and devotional value. It not only aids in deciphering mysteries and symbols but also encourages and promotes complete dedication to our Lord and Savior as it highlights the central theme of standing unsullied in the end-time judgment.

The author upholds the traditional Adventist methodology of allowing Scripture to interpret itself, and looking to history to confirm fulfilled prophecy. With that said, he also introduces a number of fresh insights. He highlights fascinating linguistic and conceptual connections with other portions of Scripture that many of us have not identified before. Those who pore over this tome will find a number of areas they readily agree with, and other areas that will require prayerful reflection before forming a decision, but nearly all will acknowledge Burgess' skillful manner of provoking prayerful thought and contemplation.

What makes any book like this truly worthwhile is the presence of Christ. Burgess stresses the ubiquity of His manifestation throughout the book—as the One who rules the universe, past, present, and future; and as the One who empowers His people to withstand the fiercest opposition for the sake of faithfulness to Him and His commandments. Jesus offers the same empowerment to us, especially as imminent events parallel what the four Hebrews experienced. This 2,500-plus-year-old document speaks to us today.

Available in PAPERBACK and eBOOK formats.

About the Author

Scott Burgess

Scott Burgess was baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist April 1, 2006. He has been on fire to serve the Lord and share the end time message with people ever since. He is married to Karen, and God has blessed them with three beautiful children: Elijah Matthew, Faith Eve, and Dinah Ruth. Their names are symbolic: all who receive the Elijah message as the gift of Yahweh, exercising a living faith therein, will experience vindication during the end time judgment, having developed the steadfastness of Ruth.

From 2008–2011, the author was privileged to be sent by the Carolina Conference of Seventh-day Adventists to the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. His love of the biblical languages developed there while preparing for pastoral ministry. Since then, he has taught a variety of courses, including Daniel, Revelation, and the biblical languages at Ouachita Hills College, a Seventh-day Adventist institution in Amity, Arkansas, that prepares students for full-time service for the Lord.

Will prove a most valuable resource.

    ALR on 16th Sep 2020

TEACH Services received the following review: "As its title suggests, THE STAND: Jesus in the Book of Daniel by Scott Burgess does not limit itself to interpreting the predictions in that work. It is profoundly Christ-centered, in both its historical and prophetic parts, dealing with both the explicit appearances of the Saviour and where He or His principles are implicitly involved. But the author does not by any means neglect the prophecies. Carefully he analyzes and matches each of them with real events throughout the centuries. He is demonstrably a Historicist, emphatically rejecting both Catholic Preterism and Futurism together with its derivative, Protestant Dispensationalism. In this, he draws on the most up-to-date and varied research as well as the time-tested work of Uriah Smith. While I differ on some points (e.g., the identification of the kings of the north and south in Daniel 11, about which Seventh-day Adventists scholars still have many divergent ideas), I agree with most of his conclusions. The minutiae of his commentary are all thought-provoking, ranging from the interesting to the profound. A most impressive feature is that Scott Burgess has made and uses his own translation of both the Hebrew and Aramaic portions of Daniel in its entirety. For students of prophecy and related matters, THE STAND will prove a most valuable resource." ~ Edwin de Kock, M.A., Dip. Theo.

    Breath of Fresh Air...

    ALR on 16th Sep 2020

TEACH Services received the following review: "THE STAND: Jesus in the Book of Daniel by Scott Burgess is a breath of fresh air to the much visited book of Daniel. THE STAND is an inductive approach to understanding Daniel. As such rather than imposing upon Daniel Burgess’s version of truth, Burgess lets Daniel speak for himself. Burgess approaches Daniel with the tools of a trained and disciplined biblical theologian; first, understanding the words in the original languages penned by Daniel himself. Then, gaining vital insights from word allusions found in other biblical books, as well as recognizing the literary chiastic structures carefully crafted by the inspired prophet, and finally visiting insights from history. As an inductive study, THE STAND affirms the historicist position through discovery. Once I got into THE STAND I could not put it down. It was gripping. The author is succinct, yet thorough. I recommend Scott Burgess’s THE STAND: Jesus in the Book of Daniel to both theologian and layman without qualification." ~ Pastor Charles Ferguson, D.Min., Carolina Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
