Description

About the Book

When the mother of her beloved pastor died, Carline purposed to travel to the funeral—a distance of approximately seventy miles. The weather was terrible, with heavy rains all over the island, but Carline and three of her friends decided, against good advice, to go anyway. The harrowing journey both to and from the funeral tested the faith and fortitude of these friends.

Swollen rivers, climbing vines up a rock face, pouring rain, scanty food, and other troubles plagued the women as they pushed on. God sent help more than once, just when they needed it most. Carline uses the hardships they faced as they trekked back as a comparison to the Christian life and urges us to press ahead, just as the three friends did in their determination to get home.

    Captivating and mind-boggling

    ALR on 5th Dec 2022

TEACH Services received the following review: Captivating and mind-boggling. A riveting narrative of a life altering experience as a result of the author attending a funeral in a deep rural community of Jamaica. The powerful rendition shows how God’s protective hands keep His children safe from danger even those that are entered voluntarily. The imagery of scenes in each chapter captures the feel of the country of Jamaica with its amazing cultural practices. The author’s spiritual transformation throughout the memoir coupled with the support of scripture with each experience is all inspiring. You will be transformed too. ~ Marlene Golding, M.Ed.

    You will be edified!!

    ALR on 5th Dec 2022

TEACH Services received the following review: Who in their right mind would climb into an open back truck, cross a flat bridge with no rails and gushing water, with not only live people but with a deceased onboard? Well, though irrational we did! A group of us ladies, headed from St. Ann to support our colleague and his family at the burial of their family's matriarch. This event which unfolded over a 24 hours period was not what none of us envisioned. Heavy rainfall left the roads leading to Halls Delight treacherous. We encountered several landslides, and I thought I would have suffered a cardiac arrest, when the truck driver with scant regard for the lives onboard, swerved to the edge of the first precipice. I had several other moments when my 'heart came to my mouth'. After approximately an hour, we finally got to the Hall's Delight community, which was far from being delightful. It rained 'buckets' throughout the entire service and burial. Before long it grew dark. The thought of travelling back to the bridge in the truck was daunting. For our safety though, without any change of clothing, we decided to stay overnight at the family home of pastor Willis. He and his family did their best to make us comfortable. The following morning we crossed mountains, hills and valleys. After several hours of walking we were safe. We had home in sight and did not quit! The angels of the Lord guided us throughout the entire ordeal. It is only through God's grace and mercy why we were not consumed and we are able to recall the events. God is faithful to the very end. Trust His promises, keep our Heavenly home in sight!! I encourage anyone who has ever been broken, felt empty, needs a refill from the Holy Spirit or you are just an avid reader, to read this book. You will be edified!! ~ Veneice Bryan-Nembhard, BSc Secondary Education and MA in Innovation in Teaching and Learning

God in heaven is a PROTECTOR and a PRAYER ANSWERING God.

    ALR on 5th Dec 2022

TEACH Services received the following review: “What in the world was I thinking? What in the world were we thinking? To cross that raging river in a truck with so many people and a casket with the dead. Wow! Wow! my mind raced to Isaiah 43:2 " When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee...!" Reading this book has brought me right back to October 2005. I'm truly reliving those moments. Thank you Caline for your detailed documentations of the events. my grandchildren and others who will read this book will know that the God in heaven is a PROTECTOR and a PRAYER ANSWERING God.” ~Hirfa Minto, Receptionist/Secretary at the North Jamaica Conference.
